The Classics… a collection of superbly organised events on the Australian eastern & southern seaboards.

back up imageTake yourself back to 2016...

Cadel won Le Tour de France some five years before...and cycling is amidst yet another massive boom...

You leave your home in Sydney and drive past the Kingsford Smith International Airport before hopping onto the M5 Motorway.

After approximately 40km you arrive at Casula (unbeknown to you) and then get onto the M31, aka Hume Highway (connecting Sydney to Canberra and Melbourne).

From here you enjoy that feeling of leaving the big smoke behind and very soon you are overwhelmed by the calming effect of rolling green hills on either side of you. The Nepean River appears and disappears from sight, flipping from your left to right, until it finally makes it home in Lake Nepean.  You also wouldn’t have realised that on your left are three major dams, being the Cataract, Cordeaux and Avon dams, in one of the state’s biggest catchment areas.

As you pass the city of Campbelltown, then the town of Pheasants Nest, onto Yanderra and Yerrinbool you now immerse yourself in the Southern Highlands. The highlands sit between 500m and 900m above sea level on the Great Dividing Range. It sports some incredible natural beauties such as Fitzroy Falls in the Morton National Park, Macquarie Pass National Park, the Cecil Hoskins Nature Reserve and the famous tulip paradise of Corbett Gardens.

Stopping at 78km from Casula and 120km from Sydney, you are now the quaint town of Bowral. For Australians, it is well known as the birthplace of the cricket legend Don Bradman, but also as a cellar door to some of the country’s more famous wines, such as the Centennial Vineyards (read more about wineries in the Southern Highlands)

So why are you here?

Great wine, great food, great scenery… all of that… but most of all GREAT CYCLING!!

Bowral 2019 0122You are participating in the first edition of the BOWRAL CLASSIC, following the training roads of Caleb Ewan.

The inaugural Bowral Classic was Bicycling Australia's first mass participation cycling event.

With the objective of raising funds for charity ,while also providing a challenging and goal-oriented day out, around 3000 riders collectively raised more than $120,000 for those most in need.

The Classic returned bigger and better in 2017 & 2018, with more riders and ultimately more money raised for charity, bringing the collective total to over $350,000!

The Bowral Classic has won several major awards including Australian Event of the Year in two categories - Best New Event and Best Community Event.

clareBowral’s success led to the launch of the CLARE CLASSIC in South Australia in 2018, held in the Clare Valley 140km north of Adelaide.

Another stunning and popular location and well known as one of Australia’s oldest wine regions, with perfect rolling hills and some climbs to keep you honest.

2019 saw yet another edition to The Classics portfolio, now in the sunny state of Queensland - The NOOSA CLASSIC is a stunner of a ride stretching as far as Melawondi in the hinterland, through Kin Kin and back into Noosa.

The success continued with phenomenal attendance at each event, proving that the ‘organisational recipe’ was correct

mudgee2020 saw the birth of the MUDGEE CLASSIC, whose baptism was planned for Sunday 3rd May, but as with thousands of events around the world, COVID-19 meant the celebration was to be delayed until Sunday 2nd May 2021.

As per the photo, a gorgeous autumn sunrise welcomed eager riders to a spectacular Mudgee morning. The delight in peoples faces was phenomenal after some tough months, we were honoured to be there and experience the vibe amongst the participants.

The organisers tenacity and committment was evident as making an event like this happen under such circumstances  is a feat in itself.!

So we ask you.... How many fingers on your hand?

1,2,3,4…….

5!

BCA logo 2017 update redProduced by riders for riders, Bicycling Australia taps into the Australian riding culture with features and local and international content that speaks directly to our audience.
