Northern Spain & Angliru

may/jun/sept/oct

Northern Spain offers a perfect package of great roads, varied routes, secret valleys, world class climbs, quaint villages lost in time and a rich history of unique food and wine so different from the rest of Spain. Want to get off the beaten track? Northern Spain is your place !

The Kingdom of Asturias existed from around 718 to 924 - founded by the Visigothic nobleman Pelagius (Pelayo). It was the first Christian political entity established after the Umayyad conquest of Visigothic Hispania in 718 or 722. That year, Pelayo defeated an Umayyad army at the Battle of Covadonga, in what is usually regarded as the beginning of the Reconquista. The Kingdom of Asturias transitioned into the Kingdom of León in 924, when Fruela II of Asturias became king with his royal court in León.
The Cruz de la Victoria can be found in the flag of Asturias today, the jewelled cross as a pre-heraldic symbol.
Today, the Spanish royal family consists of King Felipe VI, Queen Letizia, their children (Leonor, Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sofía of Spain), and Felipe's parents, King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofía.
Asturias has magnificent riding to offer, untouched, quiet roads filled with a long and significant history. This tour touches on some of the greats Spain has to offer including L'Angliru - one of the toughtest climbs in the world along with the Vuelta's favourite Lagos de Covadonga. Join us this tour of discovery, great riding, car-less roads and fabulous food!
